WHAT IS THE MIXED BREED DOG CLUB OF CALIFORNIA?

The Mixed Breed Dog Clubs of America (MBDCA), our national organization, offers registration to mixed breeds, as well as to those purebreds that cannot compete in American Kennel Club (AKC), United Kennel Club (UKC), or Australian Shepherd trials.  Registration is automatic with any form of participating membership in the local chapter.

The Mixed Breed Dog Club of California (MBDCofCA) is the local chapter for the state of California.  If you have a mixed breed and would like to work toward an obedience, conformation, or tracking title, you should join as a participating member.  If you don’t own a mixed breed or don’t plan to show but would like to encourage the club’s goal of responsible dog ownership, you may join as a supporting member.

The MBDCA and MBDCofCA require that all registered dogs be spayed, neutered, or otherwise made sterile.  MBDCofCA also strongly advocates  basic obedience training for all dogs.

Obedience & Rally ~   For participating members, the club provides a set of regulations for competition that matches those at most fun matches and workshops.  In obedience, you can earn titles at the novice, open, and utility levels.  In rally, you can earn titles at the novice, advanced, and excellent levels.

Tracking  ~   Members can earn TD, TDX, and VST titles in tracking.  These titles are earned in a manner similar to the AKC.

Conformation ~  The conformation standard is designed to promote a happy and healthy family dog and focuses on general soundness and balance as well as excellent temperament and manners.  Any dog working toward a championship must achieve an MB‑CD (novice obedience) or MB-RE (rally excellent) title before receiving more than half the points needed for a champion (conformation) title.

Events ~  The local chapter currently holds several events each year:

bullet

v     The Spring Fling in May, a fun day of games, for members & guests only.

bullet

v     The Agility Fun Run  in August is open to all.

bullet

v     Our Mini-Mutt matches in the summer and winter are open to all.

bullet

v     The Regional Specialty in the fall, a trial for obedience, rally and conformation for mixed breeds.

Resources ~  MBDCA and MBDCofCA each publish quarterly newsletters – Mixed Reviews and Mutt Muster – which provide information about upcoming events, results of previous events, and stories about members and their dogs.
